Supporting the professional development of elected members and staff, Local Government Learning Solutions coordinates relevant, high quality and cost effective training programs and seminars for councils in NSW. The programs are tailored to Local Government and are delivered by presenters who are experienced in working with councils. Industrial Relations Unit

The LGSA are the employer parties to the major industry award covering NSW Local Government employees (visit Local Government (State) Award 2007).

The Industrial Relations Unit's primary functions include:

  • Representing councils in employment related matters before Industrial Tribunals, the ADT and HREOC
  • Resolving industrial disputes
  • Representing the LGSA in the making of Awards
  • Advising councils on their OHS and discrimination obligations
  • Assisting councils to effectively manage their staff
  • Enabling councils to meet their award and statutory obligations as employers formalising enterprise arrangements

Legal Advice

The LGSA's Legal Officer provides high level legal policy advice to Mayors and General Managers on a wide range of issues affecting local government including:

  • Council meetings and procedural issues;
  • Administration of the LGSA's Legal Assistance Scheme for Councils;
  • Local Government Act and Regulations;
  • Codes of Conduct;
  • Ombudsman; and
  • Privacy

Published Industrial Reports

 

    Council's are provided with information on current issues affecting them, including updates to relevant legislation and awards, recent case law and topical employment-related information, course calendars, and products and services through the LGSA's weekly newsletter, the Local Government Weekly.

     

      Local Government Procurement

      Local Government Procurement (LGP) provides a fully integrated procurement service to councils and associated organisations in NSW. A wholly owned subsidiary of the LGSA, LGP was formed in 2006 to save councils significant money through ‘whole of Local Government’ supply arrangements and ensure an efficient procurement process.
